Gardening season is officially here, and we couldn't be more excited. Imagine it: in no time we'll be garnishing our mojitos with garden mint and filling salad bowls with fresh greens. Farmer's tan, anyone?

We'll be out on Sunday, April 7th at 1 p.m. to host a meet-and-greet event at the garden. This is a great time to meet your fellow gardeners, plant your first seeds and ask us any garden related questions you might have. Rain or shine, but let's hope for sun!

The pleasant winter weather continues, and you can sense spring just around the corner. Time to turn our attention to the business of gardening.

2019 is officially here, and we couldn’t be more excited for warm spring weather and garden bounty.

It was a tough choice, but we have selected a winning photograph in our Annual Photo Contest. This photograph was sent to us by Mary, a gardener from our Broadway & Victoria Garden.

There are plenty of freshly fallen leaves on the site: why not add a few armloads to your bed? A leaf layer like this can help prevent nutrient erosion due to heavy winter rains, and if you've got winter crops or garlic still growing, mulching can insulate plants roots.

We know, we know: why would you plant garlic if the future of the garden is unclear? It's a tough place to be in. But one nice saving grace about garlic is that it is very easy to transplant in its early phases, meaning there's always the option of relocating your shoots in months to come. Beyond that, garlic is one of the easiest and most reliable crops you can grow, not to mention economical (think about how expensive organic garlic is!).

There are many hardy plants that just love the cool fall weather. We have a solid 60+ days of growing left at the garden––why not take advantage with a couple rows of fall crops? Now is the perfect time to plant mustard, lettuce, arugula, spinach and corn salad, to name a few.

It is hot out there! And while lawns and soccer pitches struggle through the heat, well watered garden beds are bursting with colour and bounty: tomatoes, peppers, beans, kale, lettuces. We hope the harvest is filling the fridge!

We're entering the sweet zone for summer gardening, when everything we planted in spring is fruiting and blossoming and growing like crazy. Snow peas, greens, even those first tomatoes are making their way from the garden to our plates. It's a feast!

It's heating up out there, and the yield is starting to show. Great job on a great looking garden.

It can be easy to forget all about aphids when the nights are still cool and our tender green shoots grow undisturbed in their little soil beds. But come hot season, you'll want to have some measures in place to deal with the threat that is most absolutely for sure without a doubt on its way.

The event is also an opportunity for those wishing to pay their Annual Garden Fee by cash or cheque to do so, and it serves as the deadline for your 2018 registration fee. Please have your payment in to us by the 22nd!

And who isn't a beginner, really? Here are 5 things to consider when planning your garden. There ought to be something in here for everyone.

We're still about a month away from ideal seeding conditions for most early spring crops (like radishes, spinach, mustard, kale and lettuce), but there's nothing wrong with planning ahead.

January marks not just another year, but the start of the Great Countdown To Spring. Hey, February's only a month away, which means we're just a month away from planting those first snow peas in the cold, damp dirt. Not so bad, is it?
