Spring is here at the Broadway & Victoria garden and the growing season is really starting to kick off. There is a lot of uncertainty circulating around the city due to COVID-19 and we have some new rules and guidelines to follow so we can all stay safe and continue to garden.

Don’t let the wild weather fool you, spring is on the horizon. The registration has opened for the 2020 season at the Broadway & Victoria Garden. Make sure you register and start planning out what you’re going to be growing this spring.

2020 is here and we are exciting to get this new year started. If you haven’t started thinking about what you’re going to be planting in the spring and throughout the summer months, January is a great month to begin this process.

The temperatures are in the minus and snow is in the forecast — sounds like winter to me. All the water has been shut off and the beds are to rest. We want to wish you all a very merry Happy Holidays!

The first of the fall frosts have begun and we have shut off the water. Be sure to line your beds with the fallen leaves if you’re planning on growing over the winter or if you have pulled all your plants.

Fall is the perfect time to give thanks for all the bounty of the summer. Cool and crisp mornings, leaves changing colour and the taste of pumpkin in nearly everything; fall is a great time to throw on that warm knit sweater, clean out your garden beds and get ready for the coming winter.

It’s been a bountiful season so far with bumper crops of tomatoes and beans. Now that September has arrived it’s a great idea to get your fall garden planted. Choosing varieties of cool weather vegetables will help you get the most out of your garden bed.

Warmer weather is on it's way and the Broadway & Victoria garden is beginning to “spring” to life. Make sure you get a few buckets of compost into your beds so your veggies have a solid start to the growing season.

After over six years of building and managing dozens of community gardens across the city, I've decided to move on to other opportunities. I'm stoked to announce that my successor is a truly wonderful guy and one of my favourite people: Andrew Hewins!

Please make sure to register before our meet-and-greet event in April. Note that all returning gardeners must complete their Garden Registration and pay their Garden Fee for 2019. Returning gardeners will keep the same beds they gardened in 2018!

All new and returning gardeners are asked to complete our online sign-up registration form in order to secure your bed(s) for the coming year. This sign-up form also allows you to pay for your garden bed(s) online using your credit card.
